Bell's reaping machine, McCormick's American reaping machine, and Hussey's American reaping machine. The reaper designed by Patrick Bell (1799 1869) was the first practical mechanical reaper and incorporated several features that are still seen on modern combine harvesters. Cyrus McCormick patented a modern mechanical reaper in 1834. Obed Hussey (1792 1860) also designed a version of the reaper.
