To permanently implement the solution, I took off the dress, snipped off the spiral stitching holding my linen lining in place on the top edge of the front and back bodice panels, cut two stabilizer panels to fit (which on the back had to be narrow enough to fit between the lacing holes), hand stitched the stabilizer in place, and then re-sealed the linen lining
